Description
GODALMING BRIGHTON ROAD SU 9743 SW (east side) Crownpits 15/34 Nos 107 and 111 18.12.47 23.2.70 GV II
House, now 2 dwellings. Probably early C17, with added wing and C20 altera- tions. Timber-frame with painted brick infill; Bargate rubblestone; brick. Plain tile roofs. 2 storeys; 2 bays (No 107) with 1-bay wing to rear left (No 111); three 1st floor windows. No 107: of timber frame with square panels and, on first floor, reverse-curved braces from mid-rail to posts; central door of 6 raised and fielded panels (top 2 panels now glazed) in C20 open, gabled porch; windows diamond-leaded casements set in panels of the frame, of 2-lights to left of door 4-lights to right, and on first floor of 1, 4 and 2 lights, the 4-light window with ovolo moulding. Left return (north side): gable of main range (No 107) has various small windows. On left, wing of rubblestone and brick (No 111) projects having a 3-light window to ground floor, 2-light window above, roof at left end hipped at lower level and with stack. Entrance to No 111 is on south side, which has a board door with small window to right and a 2-light window above. Interior not inspected but recorded to contain: in the right room a chamfered spine-beam with lambs tongue stops, plain joists, a rear-wall fire- place on each floor with chamfered timber bressummers; first-floor partition with wattle and daub to apex; clasped purlins, straight wind braces, some rafters sooted and probably reused.
