Description

Nos 107 and 111 on Brighton Road are two houses that were likely built in the early 17th century, with an added wing and 20th-century alterations. The buildings feature a timber frame with painted brick infill, Bargate rubblestone, and brick, topped with plain tile roofs. They are two storeys high, with No 107 having two bays and a one-bay wing to the rear left, while No 111 has three first-floor windows.

No 107 has a timber frame with square panels and reverse-curved braces from the mid-rail to the posts on the first floor. The central door consists of six raised and fielded panels, with the top two panels now glazed, set within a 20th-century open gabled porch. The windows are diamond-leaded casements, with two lights to the left of the door and four lights to the right, and on the first floor, there are windows with one, four, and two lights, the four-light window featuring ovolo moulding. The left side of No 107 shows the gable of the main range with various small windows.

The left wing, which is No 111, projects and is made of rubblestone and brick, featuring a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window above. The roof at the left end is hipped at a lower level and has a stack. The entrance to No 111 is on the south side, which has a boarded door with a small window to the right and a two-light window above.

The interior has not been inspected but is recorded to contain a chamfered spine beam with lambs tongue stops in the right room, plain joists, a rear-wall fireplace on each floor with chamfered timber bressummers, a first-floor partition with wattle and daub at the apex, clasped purlins, straight wind braces, and some sooted rafters that are likely reused.
