Description
The South Gateway and Overthrow to the Church of St John the Baptist is a gateway with gates and an overthrow, likely built around 1867, coinciding with the construction of the church. It features wooden gates and posts, along with a wrought-iron overthrow. The gate posts are square in shape and have leaded, gabled tops adorned with triangular and cusped decoration. The gates consist of two leaves, each divided into two sections with open, cusped-headed panels, decorative iron straps, and chamfered internal edges, topped with a triangular-moulded rail. The overthrow is arched and includes a central lantern, scroll corner finials, a boss pendant, and spiral-finialled scroll-work on either side. This gateway matches the north gateway.
