Description

The Busbridge War Memorial is a Grade II* listed structure made of Portland stone. It features a war cross designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, standing approximately 7 meters tall. The cross has a lozenge-sectioned shaft and short cross arms, which are connected to the base by stop chamfers and cyma moulding. The base is made up of four stepped rectangular blocks of varying heights, resting on a square, undercut plinth, which is set on a square platform with three low steps.

The main inscription is carved into the largest block of the base, reading "MCMXIV MCMXIX/ THEY COUNTED NOT/ THEIR LIVES DEAR/ UNTO THEMSELVES," with "MCMXXXIX MCMXXXXV" added below. There is no list of names of the Fallen on the memorial itself, as these are recorded on a plaque in the church.

The memorial is prominently located in the north-west corner of the churchyard, overlooking the junction of Brighton Road and Hambledon Road.
