Description
The North Gateway and overthrow to the Church of St John the Baptist, located on Brighton Road in Busbridge, is likely from around 1867, coinciding with the construction of the church. This gateway features a wooden gate and posts, along with a wrought-iron overthrow. The gate posts are square in shape and topped with leaded, gabled designs that include triangular and cusped decorations, although the lead capping from the west post has been removed. The gate itself is a single-leaf, wide design with two panels; the lower panel has cusped-headed sections (one head is missing), while the upper panel displays a cross. The gate also has decorative iron straps, chamfered internal edges, and a top rail with worn triangular moulding. The overthrow consists of a simple iron arch, with a twisted bar at the base, from which a central lantern is hung. This gateway matches the design of the south gateway.
