Description

This building comprises two houses, originally built as an institute in 1885 for Ellis Duncombe Gosling of Busbridge Hall. It is constructed of bargate rubble stone, with timber-framing and some tile hanging, and has a plain tile roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of four bays. It features a plinth and wood-mullioned windows with leaded lights. The first floor has timber-framed rectangular panels in the outer bays, while the central bays are tile-hung with cusped tile banding under a bracketed pent roof. Doorways are located on the outer sides of the central bays, with a board door to the left and a 20th-century part-glazed door to the right. Windows have 3, 4, 4, and 3 lights on the ground floor, with shorter windows on the first floor. A plaque is centrally located on the ground floor, commemorating Dudley Gillespy Bois, a Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery who died in 1915 during active service off Gallipoli. Brick external stacks are present, one to the right end and another on the ridge between the left bays. These stacks have chamfered, recessed, triangular-headed panels.
