Description
The Scats Office Building, originally a cow-house, dates back to around 1600 and has undergone significant alterations and additions in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with a 20th-century brick plinth in English bond and infill in stretcher bond, topped with a plain tile roof. The building is single-storey with an attic and consists of six bays. The timber members are of fairly light scantling, and the bays are defined by wall posts that have long, slightly-curved braces extending to the wall plate. Each bay includes a 20th-century leaded casement window, either two-light or three-light. The roof is half-hipped and includes two gabled dormers with two-light casements. On the right side, the posts have short, marked jowls at the tops, three 20th-century windows, and a tile-hung gable. The rear has 20th-century additions that are not of special interest. Inside, there are large scantling cross-beams supported on the jowled tops of the wall posts, with arch braces connecting the posts to the cross-beams in the two left-hand trusses, although the rear braces have been removed.
