Description

This is a late 18th or early 19th century house, subsequently altered in the 19th and 20th centuries, and now used as commercial premises. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and has a Welsh slate roof. It is three storeys high and two bays wide. The late 19th century shop front features panelled side pilasters, large brackets supporting a corniced, cyma-moulded fascia held up by two slender cast-iron columns with octagonal bases, annulets, and Ionic capitals. Recessed 20th-century shop windows and a door are set forward of the shop front, with a tessellated pavement in front. A fire insurance plaque is positioned above the shop front. The upper floors each contain two sash windows with projecting sills and flat brick arches. A parapet hides the hipped roof, with end stacks, one of which is integrated with the stack of an adjacent property. A later rear wing is not of particular architectural interest. The building is included in the listing primarily for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
