Description
A pair of large, semi-detached houses, numbers 14, 14A, 14B, and 16, were built in the mid- to late 19th century. The houses are constructed of Bargate stone with ashlar dressings, and have plain tile roofs. They are two storeys high, with a basement and attic. The houses are symmetrical, with four bays, arranged 1:2:1, and the outer bays feature gabled two-storey porches. The porches have a tall flight of steps leading to a four-centred-arched doorway with a hoodmould and a board door, offset at first-floor level. They also have a single-light, six-pane window on the first floor with a quoined surround, a corbelled and ashlar-coped gable, and a roof that is lower than the main roof. The central bays rise to gabled half-dormers. The central bays contain a two-light, small-pane window on each floor, with a transom. These windows have a quoined surround and a hoodmould on the ground, first, and attic floors. A central cross-ridge stack features a dentil cornice. The rear of the houses features projecting central bays beneath paired gables, each with a canted, four-light bay window with a hipped Welsh slate roof to the ground floor, and a two-light window to the first floor and attic, formerly transomed. Decorative bargeboards adorn the gables, and a lateral stack is present on each side. Number 14 has been converted into two flats.
