Description
The Old Steppe House is a house that has been converted into an office. It likely dates from the early 18th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed, squared stone with red brick dressings and has a plain tile roof. It is two storeys high and has four bays. The structure features brick quoins, door and window surrounds, and a shallowly-stepped, four-course platband, along with a dentilled eaves cornice.
The doorway in the second bay has a six-panel door, with the two upper panels arched and glazed, set within a wooden architrave that has panelled pilasters rising to a slightly projecting, corniced entablature, with a frieze that has a cusped edge. The windows are sash types with glazing bars, set in flush wood architraves that have projecting sills and flat brick arches, with later cusped boards above the window heads. The roof is hipped and has stacks at the rear.
On the left side of the building, there is a window similar to those described, with a blind window above it. To the left, there is a boarded door and a narrow eight-pane window, both situated under segmental brick arches.
