Description
This is a milepost located approximately 300 metres north of the junction with North Avenue in Bawtry, South Yorkshire. It dates from 1858 and was made by J. Walkinshaw, Ironfounders of Doncaster. The milepost is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with two round-headed panels that angle forward from a round-headed back panel. The panels feature bold raised lettering and numerals, with the left panel reading "LON/154/BAW/1" and the right panel reading "YORK/44/DON/6". The maker's name and date are inscribed in smaller lettering at the bottom of each panel. It is marked on the Ordnance Survey map as being on the Great North Road.
