Description
This is a milepost from the second half of the 19th century, made by Brayshaw and Booth from Liversedge. It is constructed from cast iron and fixed onto a gritstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the small upper panel indicates "BAWTRY & TINSLEY / ROAD / WHISTON." The left side lists distances to Bawtry (16 1/4 miles), Moor (14 miles), and Tickhill (10 3/4 miles). The right side shows distances to Sheffield (7 miles) and Tinsley (3 miles). The milepost is located approximately 125 metres south-west of the junction with Moorgate Road.
