Description

This milepost, located in front of No 229 on Moorgate Road, dates from the second half of the 19th century and was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge. It is constructed from cast iron and is fixed against a wall. The milepost features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel reads "ROTHERHAM & PLEASLEY / ROAD / WHISTON." The left side displays distances to Mansfield (21¼ miles), Pleasley (18¼ miles), and Clown (10¾ miles), while the right side indicates Rotherham (2 miles).
