Description
This milepost, located opposite Moorgate Grove on Moorgate Road, dates from the second half of the 19th century. It features a cast-iron plaque mounted on a sandstone pillar. The milepost has two lower panels and a round-headed upper panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel reads: "ROTHERHAM & PLEASLEY ROAD ROTHERHAM." The left panel indicates "ROTHERHAM COLLEGE SQUARE 1 MILE," while the right panel shows distances to various locations: "MANSFIELD TOWN HALL 22½ MILES," "PLEASLEY OLD CROSS 19¼ MILES," and "CLOWN OLD CROSS 11¾ MILES."
