Description
The Rotherham Grammar School War Memorial is a limestone cross featuring bronze plaques, designed in the style of a medieval cross with a central York rose motif. The memorial has a tapering octagonal shaft that rises from an octagonal plinth and a two-stepped base.
On the upper tier of the plinth, there is a dedicatory plaque for the First World War that reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE OLD BOYS OF THIS SCHOOL WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR. 1914 – 1918 “WHO DIES IF ENGLAND LIVE.”" This tier also includes seven additional plaques listing the names of those who fell.
The lower tier features a plaque commemorating the Second World War, which states: "1939 – 1945 THESE ALSO KEPT THE FAITH." This tier also contains plaques with the names of the fallen. Additionally, there is a plaque dedicated to one Old Boy who lost his life in the Falklands conflict, which simply reads: "THE FALKLANDS CONFLICT 1982 (NAME)."
