Description
The North Cadbury War Memorial is a First World War memorial dedicated in 1920, with additional names added following later conflicts. It is made of limestone and features a four-tiered octagonal base topped by a square plinth with chamfered corners. Atop the plinth is a tall shaft with a wheel cross, which is decorated with a Sword of Sacrifice carved in relief.
On the north-east face of the plinth, there is an inscription that reads, ‘TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF/ THE OFFICERS AND MEN/ FROM THIS PARISH/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1919/ THEIR NAMES LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE/ ECCLESIASTICUS XLIV 14.' The names of 27 parish members who died in the First World War are inscribed on the other faces of the plinth. Additionally, the top tier of the base includes the names of four individuals who died in the Second World War, along with the dates of that conflict. There is also a further name on this tier commemorating a member of the Royal Air Force who died in Cyprus in 1956.
