Description
No. 9 High Street is a detached cottage dated 1733, constructed from local lias stone rubble with a coursed finish. It features a double Roman clay tile roof with plain gables and brick end chimney stacks. The cottage is single-storey with attics and consists of four bays, with the eastern two bays being of a later construction. It is oriented at right angles to the road.
The south elevation displays horizontal-bar casement windows of various dates, all of which are two-light except for the lower bay three, which is three-light. Between bays two and three, there is a plain boarded door with a rectangular glazed panel. Timber lintels are present over all openings. Above bays one and two, as well as the central doorway, there are flat-roofed dormer windows that match the overall design. A datestone marked "IP 1733" is set under a hood mould above the window in bay two.
The interior has been partly observed and features chamfered crossbeams, with possible gable stairs, though some reshaping occurred in the 19th century.
