Description
No. 3 Woolston Road is a detached cottage with origins dating back to the 17th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a double Roman clay tiled roof featuring stepped coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The cottage is set at right angles to the road and consists of two storeys with two bays.
The first bay on the west elevation is a later extension, characterized by a half-hipped roof and small-pane casement windows beneath timber lintels. To the right, there is a plain boarded door and a triangular vent under the eaves. The lower second bay features a 3-light horizontal bar casement window, while above it is a 3-light hollow-chamfer mullioned window, with two of the lights being leaded and lacking a label.
On the south gable, there is a chamfered cambered-arch doorway located towards the lower right, along with a modern small-pane casement window on the first floor. The gable shows signs of other blocked windows. The interior has not been seen. No. 2 Woolston Road appears to be identical in bulk and basic detail, suggesting that the two houses likely share common origins.
