Description

This is a 19th-century milepost located opposite number 182 on Cowley Lane in Chapeltown. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth from Liversedge and is constructed from cast iron fixed to a gritstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates "ROTHERHAM WORTLEY & FOUR/LANE ENDS/ROAD/ CHAPELTOWN." The left side displays "ROTHERHAM / 5 MILES," while the right side shows "PENISTONE/9¼ MILES/CHAPELTOWN/ ½ MILE."
