Description
Cowley Manor is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of thinly coursed sandstone with a stone slate roof. The house originally comprised two rooms and a central staircase, with a partial outshut and a small two-storey addition, and has been extended by a three-storey wing to the rear. The front facade is symmetrical, with five bays. The house has projecting ashlar quoins. The central entrance has a part-glazed door within an architrave, featuring a plain frieze and pediment. The windows are two-light, square-faced mullion windows with early iron casements and leaded lights, set within projecting surrounds. Lintels connect the ground and first-floor windows via continuous bands. The roof features shaped kneelers and square-cut gable copings, with recent brick end stacks. The interior includes a part-vaulted ceiling to the lobby, and a moulded plaster ceiling to the left ground floor room. There is a contemporary staircase, along with fielded panelling and some original fitted furniture on the first floor. The rear wing contains further 18th-century panelling.
