Description
Milepost located opposite the junction with Bevan on Burncross Road in Chapeltown, dating from the 19th century. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge and is constructed from cast iron fixed to a gritstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates "ROTHERHAM WORTLEY & FOUR LANE ENDS ROAD CHAPELTOWN." The left panel reads "ROTHERHAM 6 MILES CHAPELTOWN ¼ MILE," while the right panel states "PENISTONE 8¼ MILES."
