Description

No 52 High Street is a public house dating from the late 18th century, which has been altered over time. The building is constructed of painted brick in Flemish bond and has a pantile roof. It stands three storeys high with three bays facing High Street and one bay facing Wharf Street. The front features a 20th-century pedimented doorcase flanked by 20th-century bowed casement windows, with a similar window on the far right.

On the first floor, there is a central sixteen-pane sash window with a projecting stone sill and a flat brick arch, while the outer bays have sash windows with glazing bars, also featuring similar sills and arches. The second floor includes a central ten-pane sash window and outer eight-pane sashes, all with matching sills and arches. The building has dentilled eaves, and the roof is hipped on the right side, with a large rebuilt brick stack located between the second and third bays, and a brick end stack on the left gable.

The right return of the building has a 20th-century ground-floor window beneath the windows of the third bay. There are 20th-century additions to the front left that are not of special interest.
