Description

The Poplars is a house, originally dating to the 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century to the front facade and a later wing added to the rear. The exterior is roughcast, with a pantile roof. The house is three storeys high and has three bays, along with a two-storey outshut at the rear and further rear additions. The main entrance is on the right return. A plinth runs along the base. Stone sills project from the sash windows, which contain glazing bars. The first floor features a central Venetian window with separated sills, blind side-lights, and a round-headed sash with Gothic-style glazing bars. The second floor has a tripartite central window with projecting sills to a four-pane sash and blind side-lights; the outer bays contain six-pane sashes. A dentilled eaves cornice runs along the top of the front, and there are shaped ashlar kneelers and gable copings. On the left return, two round-headed sashes with Gothic-style glazing bars illuminate the staircase within the outshut. The building is noted for its group value.
