Description
This is a milepost located opposite the junction with Littleworth Lane on Bawtry Road in Rossington. It dates from 1858 and was made by J. Walkinshaw, Ironfounders of Doncaster. The milepost is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with two round-headed panels that angle forward from a round-headed back panel. The panels feature bold, raised lettering and numerals: the left panel reads "LON/157/BAW/4" and the right panel reads "YORK/41/DON/5". The maker's name and date are inscribed in smaller lettering at the bottom of each panel. This milepost is marked as being on the Great North Road on the Ordnance Survey map.
