Description
This is a mile post located opposite number 15 on Ingramgate in Thirsk, dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of cast iron and painted white, with letters and designs in relief painted black. The mile post has a triangular shape. On the upper face, it displays "LONDON 220"; the west face features "EASINGWOLD" along with a design of a cow with a calf below; and the east face shows "THIRSK" with a design of a bird with outstretched wings and a man holding a mug and staff below. The mile post was manufactured locally at the Norby foundry.
