Description
The Blacksmiths Arms Public House is a public house located at No 83 in Thirsk Market Place, dating from around 1600 or earlier, although its front has a 19th-century appearance. The building features a timber frame that is clad in brick and has a slate roof. The late 19th-century design includes canted bay windows and an entrance with two pairs of sash windows set beneath gables. Inside, there is an inglenook beam with quarter round moulding and panelling in the front room. The upper floor showcases square framing with jowled posts and arch braces, stout scantlings, and one heavy arched tie beam. The building has three roofs: one of the green strut type, another with two levels of purlins, and a third featuring upper crucks. Additionally, there is an early 17th-century staircase with stout turned balusters and acorn finials.
