Description
The Market Clock, located in the center of Thirsk by the Post Office, is a freestanding clock that commemorates the marriage of the Duke of York and Princess Mary of Teck in 1896. It was restored in 1956, as noted on a plaque on the south side of the plinth. The clock is constructed of ashlar and features four detached corner shafts made of pink stone, designed in a Free Gothic style. It has a square plan and a plinth with set-offs, which includes a plaque on the south side. On the north side, there is a four-centred arched doorway with a wooden door. The east side features a sunk quatrefoil, while the west side has a water fountain under an arch and gable. Above the structure, there are four clock faces situated under gables, each topped with a pinnacle.
