Description

No 15 Ingramgate is originally a fully timber-framed house dating from at least the late 16th century, featuring an aisle at the rear. The front and east gable walls are constructed from narrow hand-made bricks that appear to be from the early 18th century, with a single course of large stones at the base of the front wall. The building has brick dentilled eaves and a very steeply pitched pantile roof that extends continuously over the outshot at the rear, topped with a parapet at the east gable. It currently stands at two storeys and consists of two bays.

The front façade includes 19th-century small sash windows, with the entrance located to the right featuring a modern door, while there is a blocked entrance in the centre. To the left, there is a roughly oval patch of cement rendering that suggests a blocked oval fire window typical of the 17th century. The rear of the house reveals exposed timber framing, although it has been disturbed by later construction.

Inside, there is much exposed timber, including posts, braces, and beams, along with an inglenook beam and a section of wattle-and-daub filling. The roof structure comprises stout common rafters that are pegged at the apex and connected by slightly cambered collars positioned about one-third of the way between the apex and the tie-beam. The rafters over the aisle extend from the arcade plate to the wall plate.
