Description
Cantley Mill is a tower mill dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations. It is constructed of red brick in random bond, with a magnesian limestone base. The mill has a four-storey truncated cone shape. On the south side, there is a doorway featuring a 20th-century panelled double door set beneath a cambered brick arch. Above this, there are windows on two floors that have eroded stone sills and 20th-century casements beneath segmental brick arches. The top of the mill displays corbelled and cogged brickwork that incorporates a cast-iron curb.
At the rear, there is an altered ground-floor window and a stone plaque on the first floor inscribed 'WC 1820'. The second-floor window mirrors that of the front. Both sides of the mill have windows on all four floors similar to those on the front. The mill is depicted on Greenwoods' map of Cantley from 1817, and the datestone may refer to alterations made by owner W. Childers of Cantley Hall. The mill is located within the garden of Mill Farm on Doncaster Road.
