Description

This barn, located approximately 10 metres east of Nether Mill House, is likely from the 16th century, with encasements from the 17th or 18th century and restorations and alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed-squared rubble and features a stone slate roof. The barn has five internal bays and outshuts at the front. There is a former cart entrance on the right side of the second bay, which has been extended forward and partially blocked. The outshuts have 19th-century window openings, and there is a part-blocked cart entry at the rear with a segmental head, also from the 19th century.

Inside, there are three crook trusses with collars and extended tie-beams. The first two trusses have their front blades truncated at tie-beam level and are supported by a pier and a wall, likely added when the outshuts were constructed. The trusses feature reverse-curved braces connecting the blades to the purlins. The third truss is infilled with a random selection of studs and braces. A fourth truss, which has a deep cambered tie-beam and softwood king post and principal rafters, suggests that the barn has been extended to the right.
