Description

Penistone Bridge over the River Don is a road bridge that was rebuilt in 1866 and widened in 1915. It features tooled squared stone with ashlar coping. On the east side, there are two segmental arches and pilaster buttresses with a triangular cutwater at the center. A flat band runs along the base of the coped parapet. The west side, which was added later, is similar in design but constructed of rock-faced stone. A plaque on the parapet indicates the date of the widening.
