Description
No. 8 Market Street is a shop building dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone and has a stone slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and has one bay, which is a remnant of a larger structure. To the right, there is a passage entrance featuring a 20th-century door and a deep lintel. The shop front is located to the left, with a bar over the door that may extend beneath the shop front.
On the first floor, there is a large single sash window from the 19th century, and to the left, there is a blocked part of a transomed window. Above this is a band, and on the second floor, there is a two-light window with a double-chamfered design, although the mullion has been removed. There is also a blocked part of a window to the left. The building features a coved eaves cornice and hollow-chamfered gable copings on moulded kneelers. To the right, there is a good ashlar stack with a plinth and cornice. The rear of the building has a passage entrance with a moulded surround, but the rest is obscured by later additions. There are later buildings on both sides of No. 8.
