Description
The coal drops, located immediately west of the bridge under the Penistone-Woodhead Railway, date from the mid-19th century, around the time the railway was established in 1845. They are constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar imposts, a cornice, and a blocking course. The structure features six segmental-arched openings, each with raised keystones. There are later boarded doors on the fifth opening, and wooden supporting beams for the chutes are still present across each opening.
