Description

This is a double-aisled barn located immediately east of New Close Farmhouse, likely built in the 17th century with later alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. The barn features a timber frame that is encased in deeply-coursed squared rubble and has a stone slate roof. A central square-headed cart entry is present, along with a small doorway to the left. There is a small addition at the rear and a larger addition on the left gable (south).

Inside, the barn has seven bays and six king-post trusses supported by posts, although the footings of these posts are obscured by later stonework. The two trusses on the right side were replaced in the 19th century, while the remaining trusses are original and include struts. The posts are braced to tie-beams and arcade plates, with many aisle-ties replaced. The ridge is set diagonally, and there are two rows of purlins, with recent rafters at the right end.
