2/87 Barn immediately 7 May 1976 east of New Close Farmhouse

GV II*

Double-aisled barn. Probably Cl7 and C18/C19. Timber frame encased in deeply-coursed squared rubble. Stone slate roof. Central square- headed cart entry breaks through aisle. Small doorway to left. Small addition to rear. Large addition to left gable (south).

Interior: 7 bays. 6,king-post trusses on posts whose footings are obscured by later stonework. The 2 trusses to the right have been replaced in the C19, the rest are original with struts. Posts are braced to tie-beams and arcade plates. Aisle-ties, many replaced. Diagonally-set ridge. Two rows of purlins. Recent rafters to right end.
