Description
Tan House Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The front is made of large dressed stone, while the sides and rear are constructed from rougher coursed gritstone, topped with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a two-cell, gable-entry plan that is double-depth. It features quoins and a dripmould over the ground-floor windows, which are double-chamfered mullioned windows, although some mullions are missing. These windows include configurations of four lights, five lights, and a two-light fire-window. On the first floor, there are three 19th-century flat-faced mullioned windows with three lights, featuring a wider central light. The gable ends have stacks, and the rear includes two double-chamfered mullioned windows that were originally four lights but are now missing two mullions on the first floor. This side is set between a 19th-century stair window with an impost block and keystone. The right-hand return has a doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround.
Inside, the housebody features a large heavily-cambered bressumer supported by a stop-chamfered heck-post, along with a stop-chamfered spine beam and floor joists. The first floor includes an oak-panelled room with board-and-muntin panelling on three sides, featuring triple reeded stiles. There are also several original oak-panelled doors with double-arched lintels and a reeded central stile.
