Description

The main range of farm buildings at Foggathorpe House, dating from the mid-18th century, consists of a barn, implement shed, byre, and haylofts. Constructed of brick in English garden wall bond with a pantile roof, the buildings are arranged in a U-shape. The main range includes a threshing barn and an implement shed, which has been converted into a byre, running parallel to each other. The left wing features storage space with a granary above, while the right wing contains a byre with a hayloft above.

The facade facing the foldyard has a single-storey implement shed with four bays that leans against a two-storey barn. The wings are two storeys high and consist of three bays. The implement shed has three blocked elliptical arches; the central arch contains a fixed window, while the outer arches have board doors. There is an additional board door beneath a segmental arch on the extreme left. The left wing has a single board door and a stepped eaves course on the right return, with additional brick steps leading to a board granary door at the gable end, which also features gable coping and shaped kneelers.

The right wing includes a board stable door flanked by slatted openings beneath segmental arches and fixed windows on the first floor. It also has a stepped eaves course, with a board pitching door at the gable end, gable coping, and shaped kneelers. The rear facade features tall round-arched double-leaf board doors and a hipped roof. An addition to the right is not of special interest. Inside, the barn has a good queen-post roof.
