Description
May Cottage is a house that may date back to the 17th century, with an incised date of 1620 found in the interior. It features a cruck frame and is roughcast with a slate roof. The building has one storey with an attic and consists of three bays, along with a 20th-century cross wing added to the west. The windows are mostly two-light casements, with one horizontally sliding sash located to the left of the entrance and another entrance to the right. The left side of the building has an entrance with a window above it, a projecting stack to the left, and battered buttresses to the right. There is one flat-topped dormer and a stack located behind the ridge.
Inside, the house has two truncated cruck trusses with collars and short king posts. The ground floor features chamfered beams, an ingle nook, and a cambered opening leading to the stair in the central room.
