Description

Fox House is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century, although it has been encased in later stonework and altered over time. The building features a cruck frame, is constructed from coursed gritstone rubble, and has a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks. It is a single storey with an attic at the downhill right end and consists of two cruck bays with a flat-roofed addition on the left.

The exterior has large painted quoins, and there is a 20th-century part-glazed door to the left, which is set within a 20th-century porch. To the left of the door is a single-pane casement window with a stone sill and lintel. On the right side, there are two similar windows set within altered walling, along with another large window further down the slope. A 20th-century roof light is also present on the right. The left end has a stack positioned in front of the ridge, while another ridge stack is located on the right. The rear of the house shows irregular walling and wooden casements.

On the right return, there is an attic casement window with a stone sill and lintel. To the left, there is an old stone extension featuring a quoined doorway on the right and an altered window on the left, with a flat roof.

Inside, the central room reveals an encased cruck frame. The ground floor room to the right has a chamfered spine beam and moulded ceiling joists. In the room above, the cruck blades are visible on the inner face of the gable wall. The central truss, visible in the roof void, has wind-braces supporting single purlins and a diagonal-set ridge. A partition in the roof void to the left is made of wattle and daub, and a cruck frame may exist in the left gable.
