Description
Rural Cottage, dating from the late 17th century with a 20th-century extension, is constructed from coursed, squared gritstone and features a stone slate roof along with a pebble-dashed extension. The building is two storeys high with two windows on the first floor of the main range. There is a 1½-storey gabled extension at the front of the house, which has one window on the upper floor. The cottage has large quoins and the front gabled extension includes a glazed porch door to the left, a three-light wood casement window to the right, and a reset three-light stone mullioned window at the far right, all beneath a dripmould. The gable features a casement window.
In the main range, an altered double-chamfered window now serves as a doorway within the porch, with another altered opening to the right of the projecting extension, both also featuring a dripmould. The first floor has a former two-light double-chamfered mullion window to the left and a former three-light window to the right, which has had its mullions removed and replaced with 20th-century casements. The cottage displays shaped kneelers and gable copings, along with a shouldered and corniced ashlar ridge stack positioned to the right of centre.
On the left return, there is a plinth and a four-light double-chamfered mullion window on the ground floor, although only the central mullion remains. Above, there is a similar three-light window without mullions, featuring a hoodmould. An unusual gable plaque with circles inscribed within a rectangular grid adds character to the building. The right return has double-chamfered windows, including two two-light windows (only one retains its mullion) and two additional single lights. The cottage is included partly for group value considerations.
