Description
This is a house located at 64 Towngate Road, dated 1687 on the door lintel, with an extension added around 1976. The building is constructed from deeply coursed, squared gritstone and has a 20th-century cement-tiled roof. It has two storeys and features two windows on the first floor, with an additional window in the extension to the right. The house has large quoins and an off-centre doorway to the left, which has a bonded surround and a deep lintel that is obscured by a wooden porch. To the left of the doorway is a two-light window, and to the right is a three-light window, both with square-faced surrounds and 20th-century casements. There is a similar three-light window on the first floor to the right and a two-light window on the first floor to the left, which has a recessed chamfered surround. The building also features moulded kneelers and gable copings, along with a corniced ashlar stack on the right gable. The attached two-storey extension is set back and is not considered of special interest, but the house is included partly for its group value.
