Description
The coachhouse and stable block located at the rear of Middlewood Hall is an early 19th-century structure that has been converted into a restaurant, with an addition made in 1982. The building is constructed from horizontally-tooled, coursed, squared sandstone and features a stone slate roof. It is two stories high and consists of seven bays with a symmetrical facade. The windows and doors have modern small-pane glazing. The central carriage entrance is framed by quoined reveals and a keyed basket arch. There are doors in bays 1, 3, 5, and 7, while bays 2 and 6 contain windows. The former loft area includes a central oeil-de-boeuf window with an oculus on each side. The gable ends are adorned with moulded kneelers and cavetto-moulded gable copings. On the right gable, there is a glazed lunette window with a scalloped ledge. The building is included in the listing partly due to its group value with nearby structures. An attached building on the left and a single-storey link-block on the right are not considered to be of special interest.
