Description
White Cottage is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century, although it has earlier origins. It features a cruck frame, whitewashed limestone rubble, a thatched roof, and both stone and brick stacks. The layout consists of a two-room end-entry hearth-passage plan with a rear outshut. The building is one storey high with an attic. The entrance has a board door on the left, a central three-light Yorkshire sash window, and a two-light Yorkshire sash window to the right, with end stacks at either side. Inside, there is a heck with a boxed-in post beneath a massive bressummer. The crucks are visible in the right-hand bedroom, sawn off below the upper tie-beam, and the wall-posts stand on padstones.
