Description

Orchard House is a house from the mid to late 18th century, featuring coursed, squared limestone at the front and rubble stone on the sides and rear. It has a pantile roof and brick stacks. The house has a central staircase plan, is one room deep, and includes a rear service wing. It is two stories tall with a symmetrical three-window front and raised quoins. The central entrance has a 20th-century six-panel door beneath a divided rectangular fanlight. All windows are 12-pane sashes with stone sills, and all openings have raised surrounds. There is a raised band at the first floor and a cavetto-moulded eaves course. The gables are coped with shaped kneelers, and there are end stacks.

Inside, there is an open-string staircase with shaped cheekpieces, stick balusters, a moulded handrail, and a turned newel. The ground floor room to the right features a fireplace in a square architrave with a decorated frieze and an enriched dentilled shelf, along with a raised and fielded panelled overmantel. There are round-headed cupboards in moulded architraves on either side of the fireplace, a moulded dado rail, and an enriched frieze and ceiling cornice.

The front garden is enclosed by 18th-century cast iron spiral railings and a gate, raised on a low stone wall with urn finials. The stone gateposts have ball finials, and the railings are attached to the house by a stone coped wall with a quoined corner pier.
