Description
Daleside is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with significant rebuilding in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a cruck frame, limestone rubble brought to course, and a Westmorland slate roof. The building has a three-cell hearth-passage entry and is two storeys high, with five first-floor windows. The entrance includes a half-glazed board door flanked by three-light casements, with a French door on the extreme left. Wooden lintels are present above the windows, and the first floor has casement dormers. There are end and ridge stacks on the roof.
Inside, the house contains two very well-preserved massive pairs of crucks, which rise 24 feet high at the apex. A padstone and lifting hole can be seen at the base of one cruck, along with a rig tree and saddle at the apex. The main room retains its original bressumer and some original cross beams. Additionally, there is a spice box with butterfly hinges located to the right of the main fireplace.
