Stable And Coach House To Rear Of Number 9 Stable And Coach House To Rear Of Number 9 Manchester Road

The stable and coach house located at the rear of Number 9 Manchester Road in Southport is a former stable and coach-house that has been altered and is now used as a store and garage. It was likely built between 1835 and 1840. The structure is made of brown brick laid in English garden wall bond, featuring hipped slate roofs.

The building consists of two small rectangular blocks positioned at right angles to Walton Street, connected by a screen wall. The exterior includes two storeys with one window in each block and a single-storey screen wall. The former coach-house on the right has an elliptical-headed carriage doorway with double board doors, while the former stable on the left has had 20th-century garage doors installed. Above each block, there is a small square loading door with a raised sill, wedge lintel, and board door.

The linking screen wall features a round-headed doorway in the centre, flanked by three-quarter stone jambs, with a board door and a plastered overlight. A heavy stone cornice runs across the top, incorporating a crested panel above the doorway. The interior has not been inspected.
