Description

Walford Court is a late 18th-century to early 19th-century stables and coach house, originally serving Walford House. It has been altered in the early to mid-20th century. The building is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, likely originally rendered, with brick dressings. The coach house has a steeply pitched asbestos slate roof, while the stable wing has a slate roof.

The plan consists of a coach house block facing west and attached to Walford House, a wall fronting the stable range set at right angles facing south, and a stable range concealed behind. The two-storey coach house has four 20th-century 2-light windows under the eaves. A blind arcade of three semi-circular headed arches has been altered to include inserted openings, and a square-headed plank door is located to the left of the arcade.

Abutting the stable range is a two-storey wall. It has flat stone coping and two blind window openings on the first floor, flanking a central semi-circular headed courtyard entrance. The ground floor openings are blocked, with a 20th-century door inserted to the left, and 20th-century fenestration to the stable range behind. The building is primarily listed for its group value with Walford House to the east.
