Description

Starr Hills is a villa built in 1837, with later alterations, located on Manchester Road in Southport. It is constructed of pebble-dashed brick and features a slate roof in the Gothick style. The building has a double-depth, double-fronted plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range that is almost symmetrical, resting on a plinth.

The ground floor showcases a central Tudor-arched doorway with a panelled door, flanked by side windows in a similar style, and a fanlight featuring intersecting glazing bars. This entrance is protected by a wooden porch with pilasters, a Tudor arch, and a moulded cornice adorned with acorn finials. To the right, there is a canted bay window, while to the left, a tall three-light window can be found. The upper floor has shorter three-light windows, all of which have narrow Tudor-arched lights with thin horizontal glazing bars. Most windows, except for the bay window, feature raised sills and stone lintels with hoodmoulds.

The roof has oversailing verges and gable chimneys. There is a 20th-century garage attached to the left end of the villa, which has matching glazing in its doors. Starr Hills forms a group with the adjacent No. 9 to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
