Description

15 and 17 Manchester Road is a pair of villas, with No. 15 now converted into flats. They were likely built between 1835 and 1845 and have been altered since. The exterior features white painted scored stucco and a hipped slate roof, forming a shallow U-plan with a double-depth main range and short gabled wings connected by a loggia that includes porches.

The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical six-window range, with a corbel table at the eaves. The loggia is supported by a pair of square piers in the center, and at each end, there are round-headed archways with imposts and keystones, leading to similar round-headed doorways with fan tympanums. Between the doorways are two cross-casements with shouldered architraves. Above the loggia, the main range features two segmental-headed 6/6 unhorned sash windows with hoodmoulds, flanked by narrow 8-pane fixed windows over the doorways. Each wing has a rectangular bay window on the ground floor, adorned with pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, featuring 8/12 unhorned sashes, with a narrow segmental-headed 6/6 sash window above.

The building has a ridge chimney in the center and side-wall chimneys on both wings, all with panelled sides and bracketed pedimented tops. The left side of No. 15 includes a two-storey canted bay window. The villas form a group with Nos. 11 and 13 to the left and No. 19 to the right.
