SD3618NE BOTANIC ROAD, Churchtown 664-1/7/260 (North side) 15/11/72 Obelisk on small Green approx. 50m south of Church of St Cuthbert (Formerly Listed as: BOTANIC ROAD, Churchtown Obelisk on small green in front of Hesketh Arms Hotel)

Commemorative obelisk. C18; formerly at Worden Hall, Leyland, and removed to this site in 1950. Dressed gritstone blocks. Square section. Pedestal approx. 2m high, with a chamfered base, one broad band and a cavetto-moulded cornice with a worn inscription running round the east, north and west sides: Rebuilt in Commemor / ation of the Glorious / [illegible]. Tall obelisk on block-and-ball feet, with panelled sides and a metal flaming sun finial. Forms group with Church of St Cuthbert, St Cuthbert's Road (and associated items, qv), with 2 old lamp posts (qv) at the corners of the green, and with the Hesketh Arms (qv) facing the green from the east.
