Description

The lodge and stable block to Gateacre Grange, built in the late 1860s, is likely designed by C. Sherlock. This stone structure features a slate roof with fishscale bands and forms a courtyard on three sides, with a wall and gates to the south. The street-facing side has six bays and a drip mould over the ground floor. There are two 2-light windows and roundels with grilles between them on the ground floor. The first floor has 3-light casement windows. The right return includes a canted projecting bay with a cornice and an entrance that has a later glazed porch. The stable yard features paired sash windows on the west side, two carriage doors with flanking entrances, and gabled dormers above on the north side. The east side has two carriage doors and three stable doors, along with a right cross axial stack and a tall octagonal louvre.
