Description
The lodge at the south-west corner of Barnsley Park Estate is a small building dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and dressed stone with flush quoins on a plinth, and features a slate roof with overhanging eaves. The building has a single ashlar ridge stack that includes elaborately moulded cornices, which match the decoration on the nearby gatepiers.
This small, squarish structure is a single storey with an attic. The main facade faces south and features a doorway on the left, which has a door made up of two fielded square top panels and two long recessed panels below. This door is set within a moulded flush stone surround topped by a flat stone hood with a moulded edge, supported by large scrolled and carved console brackets. Above the door, there is a small keyed oculus with a plain architrave and recessed glazing.
To the right of the entrance, there is a canted bay on the ground floor that contains 8/12/8-pane sash windows and a carved stone balustrade. Above, in the dormer, are two small 6-pane casements set closely together, topped with a moulded stone pediment. A plat band runs along the top of the ground floor windows.
